One of the key questions that hospice teams ask their patients is āWhat really matters to you at this stage of your life?ā
Ā
Nathan and Michelle, from Northwood, had had a lifetime together for over 25 years, four children, some good times, some difficult times, but when Nathan was diagnosed with a serious illness, the thing that mattered most was to get married!
Nathan and Michelle told the hospice team on a Friday and, by Tuesday morning, they were married at the hospice! A beautiful cake was baked by the hospice Chef, flowers were gathered from the hospice garden and beautifully arranged, our Day Care room was rearranged with seats for guests and the visiting Registrars from Hillingdon Borough Council and donated champagne was ready to pop.
The wife of someone we cared for two yearsā ago, within 24 hours, came and built a balloon arch for the bride and groom.
This was all for free.
The family arranged rings and the couple were married. Nathan is still hoping for treatment, but he is very ill, but what this couple have done is create a very special day and some extraordinary memories for their children which we hope will be a comfort for whatever the future holds.
