Gifts in Wills are critical to our care – UK campaign brings hospices together
Gifts in Wills are critical to our care – UK campaign brings hospices together

A national campaign encourages the general public to support their local hospice by leaving a gift in their wills.

We at Harlington Hospice supporting Michael Sobell House are proud to be part of a wider hospice movement – a movement which prioritises compassionate care for our most vulnerable.

Hospice funding is challenged

Hospices across the UK have been working together to publicise opportunities to bolster their ability to continue delivering excellent care.  One element of this is through generating a better understanding of the importance of legacies in our funding.

Your local hospice

At Harlington Hospice we work closely with local NHS partners but only about 30% of our funding comes from the NHS.  Legacies across the hospice sector have been reducing.

Over the last 5 years at any one time about 1/10 of our income comes from gifts pledged in wills – this equates to one of the beds in our inpatient unit.

Pledge a gift and leave a legacy

A legacy is a generous way to ensure others can continue to benefit from the personalised, high-quality care from all our teams.  This might be funding directed to our inpatient unit but could be for our growing teams that support people to remain in their own homes, with respite available.  Or for our specialist teams that provide grief counselling and support. Your thoughtfulness through a gift provides a real legacy and impact for the people we care for.

Donations made to us have become increasingly important over the last few years.

How to pledge a gift and leave a lasting legacy

Speak with us

If you have completed your Will you can add what is known as a ‘codicil’ to it with a donation.

Alternatively if you do not have a Will in place, we are able to support you with this and recommend next steps in obtaining advice should you wish us to do so.

Donations left support our pillars of care. This includes:

  • Our Inpatient Unit at Michael Sobell House
  • Hospice at Home service
  • Wellbeing services
  • Psychological & Emotional Support services
  • Education & Information services

If you would like to talk to a member of our Team about how you can leave a gift in your Will, please call us on 020 8106 9222 or email:  legacy@michaelsobellhospice.org
Write your will for free online

You can write your Will for free online. Once completed it needs to be printed and signed with two witnesses present.

You are able to pledge a part of your estate or a fixed amount when outlining your wishes should you wish to do so.

Why we need your support

As a charity only part funded by the NHS, every year we need to raise £2.4 million in voluntary income. It is only with the kindness of our supporters that we can be alongside our vibrant Hillingdon community at their time of need.

We know how important it is that people living alongside serious or terminal illness can access support that’s shaped around them, when and where they need it. Your donations allow us to keep our Hospice running every day, as well as go above and beyond for people experiencing the most vulnerable moments in their lives.
